Aurora was formed in 2016 as a consortium of research-intensive universities deeply committed to the social impact of their activities, and with a history of engagement with their communities.

Experts met at the kick-off meeting of the Valor-Light project (Ľ. Ambro. S. Moser, A. Galstyan, S. Woo, L. Spíchal, V. Huntošová).

Four AURORA universities and one associated AURORA member (UPJŠ in Košice) have joined forces to form a consortium in which these institutions have highly complementary expertise and scientific interests in the fields of biology, chemistry, agriculture, biophysics, plant physiology, biotechnology and pharmacognosy.

Representatives of all AURORA partners met in Innsbruck from 30 March to 1 April 2025 for the kick-off meeting for our Aurora University project Valor-Light. The consortium was founded by: University of Innsbruck (Austria) – Prof. Simone Moser, University of Naples Federico II (Italy) – Prof. Sheridan Woo, Palacký University Olomouc (Czechia) – Dr. Lukáš Spíchal, P.J. Šafárik University in Košice (Slovakia) – Dr. Veronika Huntošová & Dr. Ľuboš Ambro, University of Duisburg/Essen (Germany) – Jun. Prof. Dr. Anzhela Galstyan, University of Hamburg (Germany) – Prof. Dr. Bianka Siewert. The Slovakian members were partly supported by Action Austria-Slovakia dedicated to co-operation in Science and Education.

New collaborations have been established as part of Dr Huntošová’s BCOrgFluorIDA project through EU NextGenerationEU as part of the Recovery and Resilience Plan for Slovakia under project number 09I03-03-V04-00007 to investigate applications of natural photosensitisers in photodetection and targeted photodynamic therapy of cancer.

We look forward to a fruitful collaboration to strengthen the partnership and develop new scientific approaches!
