The success of our PhD student at Doctoral Student Seminar
The annual Doctoral Student Seminar in Memory of Academician Boďa is a scientific event organized each autumn by the Center for Biosciences of the Slovak Academy of Sciences (SAV), specifically the Institute of Animal Physiology, in cooperation with the University of Veterinary Medicine and Pharmacy (UVLF) and the Faculty of Science at Pavol Jozef Šafárik University (UPJŠ) in Košice. Academician Boďa was one of Slovakia’s leading veterinary physiologists, with a distinguished career connected to various institutions in Košice. The seminar aims to provide doctoral students in biological sciences an opportunity to gain practical experience in presenting their scientific research results, both orally and in written form. A part of the programme is the “Best Doctoral Work Competition”, where participants present their research. This year, the committee awarded six outstanding presentations with gift vouchers. Among the winners was Soňa Olejárová, a student from the Department of Biophysics and Center for Interdisciplinary Biosciences at UPJŠ, who presented her research on photon-upconversion nanoparticles and their potential applications in photodynamic therapy. This work was done within the collaboration of Dr. Huntošová and Dr. Horak’s group from the Institute of Macromolecular Chemistry, Czech Academy of Sciences. Selected contributions are published in a peer-reviewed conference proceedings.
The work that was presented during the seminar was supported by the grant schemes of the Research and Development Support Agency project APVV-20-0340, the bilateral project between Slovakia and Austria: SK-AT-23-0001 and was also funded by the EU NextGenerationEU through the Recovery and Resilience Plan SR within the project no. 09I03-03-V04-00007.
